About us

A villa built for the art of doing nothing.

Calamara began as a simple wish: a place near Barkur in coastal Karnataka where a family, or a gang of ten loud friends, could have an entire property to themselves, without hotel corridors or checkout-clock anxiety.

The villa keeps things honest. One or two bedrooms depending on your package, a kitchen that sends out proper home food, a projector for films that run past midnight, and enough open ground for a bon-fire, a BBQ, or absolutely nothing at all.

We host couples looking for quiet, families looking for space, and friends looking for a story. What we never host is a crowd you didn't arrive with.

What we stand by

Four quiet promises

Complete privacy

One booking at a time. No shared spaces, no strangers at breakfast. The whole property is yours.

Home-cooked food

Breakfast and dinner made in the villa kitchen, veg and non-veg, the way a home makes it.

Open space

Lawns, sky and quiet in every direction. The best amenity here is the absence of everything.

Slow living

Bon-fires, projector movies, long talks. Days at Calamara are deliberately unscheduled.

Our mission

Peace for the land. Visibility for Barkur.

To preserve the land as an uncompromising site of peace, while restoring visibility to Barkur as a place of deep cultural and spiritual heritage: its 80-plus surviving centuries-old temples, its lakes, and its coastal Tulunadu traditions, through a model of hospitality rooted in local economy and personal care.

Our vision

Longer stays, deeper rest.

Calamara aspires to grow into a destination for extended, restorative stays, welcoming inbound and domestic travellers for 15 to 30 day retreats, supported by an evolving range of experiences including spa and wellness offerings, curated events, and additional accommodation formats such as treehouses and premium suites.

This is a multi-year vision, to be built in step with the brand's own growth and proof points, beginning with what already makes Calamara distinctive today: space, stillness, and personal hospitality.
